Zôdio embraces omnichannel and develops a new store concept with Openbravo
Inspiring customers with the latest trends in home decoration
Zôdio has 20 stores in France and employs more than 1,100 people. It stocks more than 30,000 products to fit out, accessorize and decorate the home and its team of category managers travel the world to find inspiration and offer the latest trends. Zôdio is part of Adeo, the leading DIY retail group in France and the third largest in the international DIY market with a presence in 15 countries, more than 114,000 staff and a turnover in 2018 of more than €23bn.
“ We chose the Openbravo platform not only because it met a specific need we had in terms of fiscal compliance but also because of its impressive omnichannel capabilities, which have become essential in the new retail reality. ”
Arnaud Tételin, CIO of Zôdio
The challenges
Need for a compliant POS
Zôdio needed new POS terminals to comply with French law 2015-1785, which requires all retailers in France to use POS systems that comply with specific standards designed to reduce tax fraud by ensuring the integrity of transactions. Its previous POS terminals were incompatible and the price the supplier quoted to upgrade them to be compatible was judged prohibitively high by Zôdio.
Improve service and reduce lines
Zôdio wanted to offer quicker, more consistent in-store service during peak shopping periods. One of the benefits it offers its loyalty card holders is members-only “Journées Privilèges” promotions, which offer big discounts to purchases made online or in the stores on a particular day. Inevitably, lines form in the stores at these and other peak times, and so Zôdio wanted a solution that could handle the extra workload and so improve the customer experience.

The solution
Compliant solution with the French law
Zôdio selected Openbravo because it offered a mobile POS solution that complied with the French law and offered many additional advantages as well, particularly in terms of expandability and ease of integration.
Rapid rollout
The project started in June 2020 with a proof-of-concept (POC) in its Paris store, which went live in September and was well received, leading Zôdio to entrust Openbravo with an ambitious rollout to all 20 stores, which was completed early november.
“ We were particularly impressed by the rapid yet smooth rollout that Openbravo has undertaken as it has allowed us to reach all of our stores in a very short time. ”
Arnaud Tételin, CIO of Zôdio
The results
Unified online and offline channels
The new POS solution allows Zôdio stores to fulfill online orders so customers can buy products online and pick them up in their nearest store without even having to enter the store, if necessary, as Zôdio has introduced curbside pickup.
Simplified integration
Openbravo’s advanced interoperability capabilities have allowed Zôdio to simplify the complexity and cost of all required integrations with existing legacy systems. Key integrations include the Zôdio eCommerce site and the central CRM system managing Zôdio loyalty programs.
Faster checkout and support for low-touch scenarios
At peak times, such as during its regular promotions, Zôdio store associates can be redeployed to perform “queue busting”, using the Openbravo mobile POS to scan the customer’s items while they are waiting in line. Also, during cooking or creative workshops offered to customers or in the personalization zone located in the heart of the store, workshop managers or associates can handle payments for these priority customers directly rather than having to re-direct them towards the checkout lines.
Similarly, Zôdio can now also offer its customers a faster and more convenient checkout thanks to Openbravo’s self-checkout (SCO) solution, while its employees can deliver orders and process payments even when they are outside the store in a curbside pickup scenario.
