Openbravo publishes R.2.0 of its open source ERP
Pamplona, Spain. April 18, 2006 - Tuesday marked a significant milestone for Openbravo as it made its Release 2.0 available to the public. The web-based open source ERP solution includes a variety of functionalities geared towards Small and Midsize Enterprises (SMEs). Current functionalities include Purchasing, Warehousing, Project Management, Manufacturing, Sales, Financial Management, CRM and Business Intelligence, but are expected to rapidly grow. While releasing for the first time its code to the public, open source has been at the core of Openbravo's actions since its birth. "We began this project five years ago with tools from the community and now we feel it is the moment to offer our application and tools back to the community, said Openbravo CTO, Ismael Ciordia.
Openbravo is already being used by a number of companies in various industries, including: distribution, services and manufacturing. "For quite some time now, customers have benefited from our product - I see this new Release as an opportunity that will allow us to solidify our open source roots through our community, increase our reach and help more companies around the globe," said Openbravo CEO, Manel Sarasa.
What makes Openbravo such a good solution for SMEs?
Designed for SMEs. Openbravo includes all of the functionalities required to properly manage small and medium sized businesses with easy of use. As opposed to most ERP solutions, the Openbravo software is published in open source and therefore users are not required to pay licenses to use it.
Highly adaptable. Openbravo can easily be configured to meet the needs of different businesses and is flexible enough to adapt to the specific particularities that different companies have. Because the code is now public property, business owners can take the software and adapt it to their needs in any way they want.
Always available. Openbravo is an easy-to-use web-based solution. Users can access the system based on their privileges from any computer with only a web browser installed. This increases the system's availability and helps increase productivity.
"It's an IT Director's wizard's dream," claimed Obenbravo CTO Ismael Ciordia. Costs of implementing an ERP solution are much lower now that experienced IT professionals can do this in-house. Ciordia did advise, however, that most SMEs contact Openbravo's partners to handle the implementation as they are specially trained to adapt the Openbravo solution to customer strategies.
As an open source project, developers are encouraged to collaborate with the company's team to jointly achieve incremental improvements and increase the suite of functionalities. Ciordia said that he was looking forward to working with his peers throughout the world, "making Openbravo capable of meeting the needs of all SMEs."
