Openbravo backs Open Solutions Alliance as founder member
New independent consortium (OSA) to educate and inform businesses deploying open source, while promoting best practice and interoperability among vendors.
Open Solutions Summit, New York, NY - February 14, 2007 - Openbravo, the leading developer of professional, web-based, open source ERP solutions designed specifically for small and medium businesses, is a founding member of the Open Solutions Alliance (OSA), a new non-profit consortium dedicated to helping businesses and developers reap maximum benefits from open source technologies.
Openbravo is already playing a major role in establishing the OSA alongside other enterprise application specialists which include Adaptive Planning, CentricCRM, CollabNet, EnterpriseDB, Hyperic, JaspserSoft, SourceForge.net®, SpikeSource and Talend.
"Open source is here to stay, so we need to build strong foundations for an ambitious future" said Josep Mitjà, Chief Operating Officer for Openbravo. "Everyday more businesses are grasping the basics of the open source framework and are showing huge interest in deploying such technology across their organisations. It is vital that we act now to help the industry mature rapidly and meet this need by addressing key issues such as interoperability."
"The Open Solutions Alliance invites all vendors that wish to contribute to the bright future of open source to come together and unite to ensure developers and business users alike understand the benefits of open source and can share best practices going forward."
The OSA is an important vendor-neutral alliance welcoming any companies committed to the development and support of open source technologies, regardless of application. The Alliance will strive to ensure interoperability and communication between its members and to embrace all independent software vendors (ISVs), open source vendors and end users seeking to learn about, or deploy, open source technology.
The OSA's initial activities will include defining and promoting of tools, frameworks and best practices that will further facilitate easy deployment and interoperability between member applications. The alliance will create 'meta-communities' by forging partnerships on projects that involve a broad range of companies, communities and individuals to drive innovation and collaboration more rapidly. This will be followed up by coordinating joint marketing campaigns to raise the awareness of business-hardened open source applications and solution suites.
